2024 Nissan Leaf

Nissan was the first automaker to build a practical electric vehicle (EV) with pioneering spirit. That electric vehicle was the Nissan Leaf and its 2024 iteration benefits from a quiet and spacious cabin that makes for a comfortable driving experience. Not to mention, the hatchback’s low price makes it attractive to EV shoppers on a tight budget.

Engine Type

The 2024 Nissan Leaf is a front-wheel drive car. The standard Leaf S trim comes with a 147-horsepower electric motor and a 40.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack—both relatively small by today’s standards. The Leaf SV Plus, however, gets a gutsier 214-horsepower electric motor and a larger 62.0-kilowatt-hour battery. That said, an S trim feels perky courtesy of the instantaneous power delivery of the electric motor. The Leaf vehicle’s e-Pedal feature also allows the driver to toggle back and forth between regenerative braking modes, one of which allows the car to coast when the driver lifts off the throttle and another that slows the car when the driver takes their foot off the gas and utilizes that energy to recharge the battery.

What’s new for 2024?

Nissan makes no significant changes to the Leaf for 2024 but has announced the model’s end of production.

Exterior Features

Sleeker and less visually obtrusive than in years past, the 2024 Leaf no longer stands out as wonky in the EV realm. The shape is similar, but more upscale details make a massive difference, with Nissan’s signature blacked-out rear pillar creating the floating-roof effect that ties the family together. Other sporty characteristics include aerodynamic diffusers and deflectors, dark headlight reflectors, and five-spoke 17-inch wheels on the SV Plus trim.

Interior Features

Even though the cabin of the Leaf has plenty of black plastic, the uniform and well-assembled textures help it avoid looking poor in quality. The gauge cluster features a large analog speedometer next to a 7.0-inch digital readout that can be reconfigured to showcase numerous displays. The hatchback’s seats are also La-Z-Boy comfortable. For example, the spacious rear seat offers plenty of room for adults. Although the EV’s back seat does not create a flat load floor when folded, the cargo capacity is among the best in its class.

Entertainment

All Leaf trims come equipped with the same 8.0-inch infotainment display unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration; navigation is optional. A six-speaker audio system is standard, and a seven-speaker Bose system is optional. Moreover, the latest Nissan Connect software interface is intuitive and quick to respond to inputs.

Safety Features and Warranty

Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 suite of safety attributes is standard across the lineup, and the brand’s novel ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving mode is optional. The feature adds a more advanced adaptive cruise control system and lane-keeping assistance functionality that work in tandem to create a driver assistance system that eases freeway commuting. Other standard components include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and an Intelligent Around View Monitor are also available. As for warranty coverage, Nissan offers a limited warranty that covers three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty that covers five years or 60,000 miles. Additionally, the battery warranty covers eight years or 100,000 miles.
