Here’s the short story: the 2026 Nissan Versa is real, fully refreshed head to toe, and went on sale in Mexico and Latin America this past spring. It just isn’t coming to American showrooms. The 2025 model year marked the end of the line stateside.
Why the U.S. Missed Out on the Refresh
Nissan put it on the record in December 2025: production for the U.S. market officially wrapped up that month. Company spokespeople have said nothing about plans beyond 2025. That’s the whole story, and it’s far less dramatic than viral headlines sound. The Versa didn’t fail; its market simply shifted.
Fifteen straight years as the best-selling vehicle in Mexico is why the refresh budget landed where it did. While American buyers migrated toward taller crossovers, the subcompact sedan retains its entry-level slot in Brazil, Mexico, and across Latin America.
What Changed on the Refreshed Sedan
The front end is the obvious visual tell. A new grille and front fascia pull the car into line with Nissan’s current global design language.
LED headlamps and taillamps offer a Follow Me Home lighting function on Advance and Exclusive versions, while the lineup-topping Exclusive rides on 17-inch machined alloy wheels. Less obvious but useful: front seats were redesigned with added side-to-side support in the headrests and wider seating surfaces for longer drives.

The Exclusive also gets an eight-speaker Bose Premium audio system, with two speakers embedded directly in the driver’s headrest, plus dual tweeters and a wireless charging pad. Six airbags come standard across all variants.

Starting MSRP was $17,190 (excluding destination fee) for the manual S variant, making it the last sub-$20,000 new car in America. Tariffs on Mexican-built vehicles and razor-thin margins left nowhere for costs to go.
